The then Punjab Law Minister Raja Basharat had assured the Mohmand jirga of a government-level investigation and said that strict action would be taken against the accused.
A 10-year-old girl who was going to the swimming pool with her brother in the Manawan area of the provincial capital Lahore was killed after attempted rape in August.
Slain Maria was belonging to the Sharifpura Mohmand tribes of the Manawan police station area of Lahore. She went to a private swimming pool with her brother and younger sister but she suddenly disappeared.
When Maria’s brother tried to find her, the owner of the swimming pool said that she had gone home.
According to the parents, when they searched for Maria after their children returned home but she was nowhere to be found.
When they reached the swimming pool again, the owner told them that she had drowned, after which she was taken to the hospital. The doctors at the hospital confirmed the death, after which the parents filed an FIR against the girl’s murder at the Manawan police station.
The family alleged that Maria was murdered after being raped. The police registered a case after spending 24 hours when protests were held on the Ring Road.
According to sources, the owner of the swimming pool tried to rape young Maria and later killed her when the girl went unconscious.
A crime reporter from Lahore Jaber Waqas told News360 that Mohmand tribes protested against the rape and murder of Maria from Mohmand district.
They also recorded a protest outside the office of CCPO Lahore, while a protest was also held at the Peshawar Press Club where the elders of Mohmand tribes held a press conference and said that Maria from Mohmand district was also killed after being raped. They said that Maria was also the daughter of the nation just like Zainab.
The tribal elders said that after Maria was raped, her hands and feet were broken and she was thrown inside the swimming pool which caused her to suffocate in the water.
He said that Mohmand’s tribes only want justice just as Zainab was raped and killed, Maria has also been victimised.
The elders of Mohmand district have demanded the prime minister, Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) and the Punjab chief minister take notice of the rape and murder of Maria and punish the rapist-cum-murderer.
The delegation of Rawalpindi Islamabad Mohmand Jirga met the former Punjab Law Minister Raja Basharat regarding the rape and murder case of Maria and demanded that the elements involved in the heinous incident be brought to justice.
Mohmand Jirga Chairman Ajmal Khan, President Gul Akbar, General Secretary Rehman Khan and others were present in the meeting with Raja Basharat.
Speaking on this occasion, the delegation said that the innocent girl Maria Mohmand was killed after being sexually assaulted and killed in the vicinity of Manawan police station of Lahore.
Raja Basharat assured the Mohmand Jirga of a government-level investigation and said that strict legal action will be taken against the accused. Raja Basharat said that he will bring justice to Maria Mohmand, the daughter of the nation.
