Why Geo News aired stretched video of Sheikh Rasheed’s BBC interview?

Geo News aired a stretched video of Interior Minister Sheikh Rasheed’s interview to BBC by its former reporter Farhat Javed Rabani.

Geo News has aired a stretched video version of Interior Minister Sheikh Rasheed’s interview to BBC by its former reporter Farhat Javed Rabani that had raised questions of whether it was an attempt to steal the video or deliberately keep the female reporter out of the frame.

The BBC Urdu Editor Asif Farooqi wrote on Twitter, “This is theft, don’t have the grace to give credit? At least don’t stretch the video to get the BBC logo and our reporter Farhat Javed Rabani out of the frame. Shameful!!!”

To this, Farhat Javed Rabani said that she also noticed the same.

Reacting to the tweet, a journalist from Hum News said, “Its @geonews_urdu @GeoJangPR habit of stealing videos and not giving due credit. It did the same with chairman senate exclusive video I posted (while blurring my name) where he can be seen talking about Big Brother.”

Sheikh Rasheed’s exclusive interview to BBC Urdu had been aired on Thursday. The interior minister was interviewed by a senior reporter Farhat Javed Rabani.

It may be noted here that Farhat Javed Rabani had filed a complaint of sexual harassment to the internal committee of Geo News against her colleague when she was working at the Islamabad office.

Farhat Javed Rabani had alleged that Geo News journalist Arshad Waheed Chaudhry late had harassed her and she later moved to the Federal Ombudsman on Sexual Harassment after the internal committee of the media house appeared to be reluctant to take strict action against him despite finding him responsible.

Arshad Waheed Chaudhry, a senior Geo News journalist and host of “Geo Parliament”, had passed away in November 2020 due to COVID-19.
