Geo News Spotted Spreading Fake News Again
The critics have remarked that the media outlet has fortified the government’s stance against fake news and made room for the establishment of Pakistan Media Development Authority
In another instance of spreading fake news, Geo News painted a wrong interpretation of a UK court’s decision regarding the Sharif family.
Geo News reported a fake story that PML-N President Shehbaz Sharif and his son Suleman Sharif have been acquitted by a UK court after no evidence of money laundering, fraud, and criminal conduct were found against them.

However, when the court order was obtained, there was no mention of acquittal and the National Crime Agency (NCA) of the UK only probed into dubious transactions.
The order has nothing to do with the corruption and money laundering cases in Pakistan.
The media persons, who also happen to be lawyers, were also surprised how a court order was interpreted in the favor of the Sharif family and the media outlet ran it as a breaking story.
Ehtesham Amir-ud-din, who host a current affairs program at Samaa TV, and Muneeb Farooq, who is himself associated with Geo News, also took to their Twitter accounts to explain the falsified verdict.
I wonder how last night on basis of this UK Court’s order reg one bank account & one transaction, few media persons with no understanding of law in a silly way vindicated shareef family of all charges of corruption in Pak and abroad. This order has nothing to do with cases in pak pic.twitter.com/XKjd2efree

Suspicious Activity Report Regime (SAR) is active in UK. Banks & Financial institutions can pick nearly any transaction as suspicious and report it to National Crime Agency which thn starts the investigation by getting an AFO at times. If it doesn’t find anything it stops probing https://t.co/R3LeAiSigb

Now, Geo News has deleted the story filed by its UK correspondent Murtaza Ali Shah to avert legal repercussions on spreading fake news as there is strict law against the practice in Britain.
The critics have remarked that Geo News has fortified the government’s stance against fake news and made room for the establishment of Pakistan Media Development Authority (PMDA).
