Has Civil-Military Found a Middle Way on DG ISI Conflict?
The prime minister wanted to keep Lieutenant General Faiz Hameed on the post owing to the current situation in Afghanistan but military announced deployment of Lieutenant General Nadeem Anjum on October 6
Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry has confirmed the process of new appointment of DG ISI has been initiated which indicates the civil-military leadership has found a middle way to resolve the conflict.
In a tweet, the minister said the consultation on new DG ISI has been completed between COAS and prime minister.

“Once again, the civil-military leadership has proved all institutions are united and equal for the country’s stability, integrity, and development”, he said.

The controversy brewed owing to a previous statement by Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) regarding fresh transfers in Pakistan Army.
According to an ISPR statement issued on October 6, Lieutenant General Nadeem Anjum replaced Lieutenant General Faiz Hameed as DG Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) while Hameed will take the command as the Peshawar Corps Commander.
Prime Minister Imran Khan convened a meeting of the National Security Committee (NSC) on October 8 which Lieutenant General Faiz Hameed also attended as the DG ISI.
It emerged the prime minister wanted to keep General Faiz Hameed as the DG owing to the current situation in Afghanistan.
A rift between the government and military was apparent over the issue however Imran Khan told his cabinet yesterday that the appointment of ISI chief was his pejorative.
With the minister’s tweet, it appears that the COAS and Prime Minister Imran Khan have found a middle way on the appointment of the new DG ISI.
