Horrific Megabats Make Sukkur Their New Dwelling
A wildlife official said the animal does not attack humans and only eats fruits, vegetables and insects
The arrival of the horrific megabats in the Sukkur district has spread panic among the citizens.
The news circulated earlier that a megabat had injured a citizen after flying into his house.
However, Sukkur Deputy Commissioner (DC) Javed Ahmed rejected the reports and maintained nothing of the sort happened.
He clarified that the megabats or fruit bats were not dangerous for humans and they only eat fruits and vegetable crops.
DC stressed that the winged mammals were endangered and people should not kill them.

He also summoned reports from the wildlife and other related departments for measures to put megabats to flight from Sukkur without imperiling them.
Ahmed also instructed the officials to run a campaign on social media to sensitize people about the endangered animal along with placement of banners across the district.
Further, Sukkur Division Wildlife Deputy Convener Hamid Khan said that the bats which have come to Sukkur are the largest in the world. They are also known as flying foxes or fruit bats.
The official said the animal is found in 6 countries in the world including Pakistan, India, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Bhutan and Maldives.
He iterated that the fruit bats don’t attack humans and eat fruits, vegetables, and insects only.
At night, the animals fly up to 95 miles in search of food and give birth to one young in a year.
The deputy convener said that the people must not be afraid of the megabats as they would not attack them.
He added that there has been no incident on record where the winged mammals attacked humans.
However, the official advised the people to not tease them.
The wildlife official said that the district administration would not kill the bats that have come to Sukkur but instead make arrangements to put them to flight.
