The Islamabad High Court Bar Association (IHCBA) has filed a petition to the IHC against Geo News Network for airing 'fake news'.

The Islamabad High Court Bar Association (IHCBA) has filed a petition to the Islamabad High Court (IHC) against Geo News Network for airing ‘fake news’.

The Islamabad High Court Bar Association (IHCBA) stated in its petition that a baseless report was aired by Geo News that the association condemned Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan’s apology to the additional sessions judge Zeba Chaudhry and contempt proceedings against the politician.

The private news channel also claimed that the IHCBA announced holding protests against Imran Khan over his misbehaviour and to show solidarity with the female judge. The IBA said that the news report was immediately rejected by the association.

The IHCBA later decided to seek legal action against the responsible persons following the airing of a fake report on Geo News.

IBA, Geo News, fake news

The petition read that the media report was an attempt to defame the IHCBA and the IHC which came under the category of contempt of court. The association sought legal action against the Geo News management for disrespecting the judiciary and lawyer fraternity via its fake report.
