Illegal nikkah case shifted to new judge’s court

A significant development has occurred in the ‘Iddat’ marriage case against Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi. The Islamabad High Court has approved a request to transfer the case to another court.

The case has been transferred to the court of Additional District and Sessions Judge Muhammad Afzal Majoka.

The decision came after District and Sessions Judge Shahrukh Arjumand wrote to the Chief Justice of the Islamabad High Court requesting the transfer.

The appeal filed by Imran Khan against the ‘Iddat’ marriage case will now be heard by Additional District and Sessions Judge Muhammad Afzal Majoka.

It is important to note that during a previous hearing of the case, the party involved, Khawar Maneka, had expressed distrust in District and Sessions Judge Shahrukh Arjumand, leading to the judge’s request for the case transfer.

In his letter to the High Court, Judge Shahrukh Arjumand stated that appeals filed by Bushra Bibi and the PTI founder were scheduled for hearing. However, Khawar Maneka expressed a lack of confidence in him.

He further mentioned that the previous distrust request was dismissed and that it would be inappropriate to decide on the distrust request again. Therefore, he requested the transfer of the appeals to another court.

Judge Shahrukh Arjumand also mentioned that Khawar Maneka and his lawyers had consistently attempted to disrupt the hearings.
