Ineligibility Hanging Over Gillani-Vawda Like Damocles’ Sword
Both leaders may get declared ineligible over different reasons and their political careers can grind to a halt

Faisal Vawda of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and Yusuf Raza Gillani of Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) have managed to wear the badge of senator-ship but the threat of ineligibility is hanging over them like the sword of Damocles.
Both Faisal Vawda and Yusuf Raza Gillani may lifetime ineligibility over different reasons.
PTI’s Faisal Vawda has resigned as an MNA right after he was elected as a Senator.
This packed up his disqualification case in the Islamabad High Court (IHC) which ruled that the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) was the authority to decide upon Vawda’s ineligibility.
He had allegedly submitted a false affidavit with his nomination papers before contesting general elections 2018.
Meanwhile, a controversial video emerged just hours before the Senate elections in which Ali Haider Gillani, the son of Yusuf Raza Gillani, was guiding PTI lawmakers on how to waste their votes.
Later in a press conference, Ali Haider admitted that it was him in the video but maintained that he just ‘guided’ his friends from PTI as they did not want to vote for his father’s opponent, Hafeez Shaikh.
Following the controversial video, PTI filed a disqualification reference against Gillani in ECP who has won Islamabad’s general seat in the Senate elections against its candidate.

The ruling party maintained that Gillani’s son offered a bribe to PTI lawmakers and engaged in dishonest activities at the behest of his father. Therefore, he should be disqualified.
The case would be presided over by ECP as it had taken the notice of the video clip.
Hence, the joyous moments for both leaders could be short-lived as the threat of ineligibility is hanging over them like a Damocles sword.
They can be sent out of the parliament just some days after swearing-in as senators.
