Is Public Holiday on Friday Suitable For Pakistan’s Economy?
KP lawmakers demanded the government to consider revising the decision of public holiday as the economy is slowing down due to two consecutive days off
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Assembly on Tuesday passed a bill regarding the restoration of Friday as a holiday.
The bill was moved by Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) members Humaira Khatoon and Haji Sirajuddin who were of the view that Pakistan came into being in the name of religion and Friday holds significance in Islam.

The resolution recommended the federal government to immediately restore the public holiday on Friday across the country as it can help boost the economy.
It was maintained in the bill that in Pakistan, Friday used to be a public holiday that was later announced to be shifted to Sunday.
The members demanded the government to consider revising the decision of public holiday as the economy is slowing down due to two consecutive days off.
Following the decision, economic observers expressed that the decision can put heavy burden on the economy as the world continues business activities on Friday.
