Police officials have recovered military arms and ammunition buried underground since around 10-12 years from a building in Old City Area of Karachi.

KARACHI: Police officials have recovered military arms and ammunition buried underground since around 10-12 years from a building in the Old City Area of Karachi.

The arms and ammunition include the anti-aircraft gun, machine gun, mortar, weaponry to target helicopters, buildings and other military equipment. The recovery of the large cache of rusty military weaponry was made by the District Central Police on Friday during an operation conducted on a tip-off.

However, the police rejected to get a lead of the buried weapons from any arrested suspect.

After the initial recovery, police officials expanded the digging process to other portions of the multi-storey building in which a family was residing on its first floor but its ground floor was converted into a utensil godown. The operation had been continued for over 10 hours on Friday late at night.

During the operation carried out by SSP Central Malik Murtaza and other teams, heavy contingents of police kept surrounded the building until its clearance.

It was learnt that the recovery was made from a 60 to the 70-year-old house located near Lyari’s Lee Market in front of Napier police station.

The SSP Central Malik Murtaza that the military arms were apparently buried underground 10 to 12 years ago and the operation was conducted on a tip-off. He told the media that a thorough investigation will be conducted after complete recovery of the arms after the registration of a case.
