Mir Shakil’s Lawyers Use ‘Impressive’ Delay Tactics
Due to the absence of the accused’s senior lawyer, the court has adjourned the hearing of the reference till August 31
An accountability court (AC) has adjourned the hearing of Mir Shakil-ur-Rahman’s case until August 31 after the suspect’s lawyers smartly used delay tactics just like the counsels of former President Asif Ali Zardari.
AC Judge Asad Ali was presiding over the case filed against Mir Shakil for illegal allotment reference of plots by National Accountability Bureau (NAB).
The suspect Mir Shakil obtained 54 plots of 1-Kanal each with the connivance of ex-Chief Minister Nawaz Sharif.
On NAB’s behalf, prosecutors Syed Faisal Raza Bukhari and Haris Qureshi appeared in the hearing yesterday while accused Mir Shakil appeared along with his junior lawyer.

Mir’s senior lawyer Amjad Pervaiz was unable to appear due to illness, leading the court to adjourn the hearing till August 31.
During the hearing, AC Judge expressed displeasure on the absence of the senior counsel and said that he had to pronounce verdict in the case as soon as possible.
However, he remarked that he could not do so without giving all parties equal chance as the case involved the owner of a big media group.
On Mir Shakil’s junior lawyer request, Judge Asad Ali called off the hearing which would resume on August 31 after the judge would be on summer vacation.
On the other hand, legal experts say that Mir Shakil’s lawyers are using delay tactics to save him for another day.
The senior lawyer expressed that the counsels of Asif Ali Zardari also used the same strategy for delaying case proceedings which are now visible in Mir Shakil’s case.
