The date of September 6 is marked as Defence Day as the nation commemorates and pays homage to martyrs and Ghazis of the 1965 Indo-Pak war.

It started when the Indian forces ambushed in the Rann area of Kutch in April 1965 but they were ejected by the national army after a brief conflict.

Pakistan then proposed a ceasefire which was accepted by the opponent and an agreement was signed.
In the wee hours of September 6, Indian aggression sprung up again without a formal declaration of war.
The Indian Army trespassed international border, this time ambushing Lahore and Kasur side border areas.
Pakistani forces foiled the aggressor’s attempt and inflicted heavy damage to it.
The heroics of Pakistan Air Force (PAF) Pilot Squadron Leader M.M Alam are part of the 1965 war.
He shot down five fighter jets of the Indian Air Force (IAF) in a minute which is still a world record.
Besides this, the Pakistani Army also para-dropped three teams of Special Services Group (SSG) commandoes on the bases of IAF in Pathankot, Adampur, and Halwara.
Pakistani troops and PAF jets intruded 6 to 8 miles into Indian territory and vital positions at Sulemanki and across Rajasthan were captured.
On the night of September 7-8, the Indian Army launched an attack east of Sialkot with one armored and three infantry divisions.
However, the Pakistani troops defended the land and delayed and disrupt enemy thrusts.
As the presence of Indian troops was confirmed, the Pakistani Army rushed forward and the biggest tank battle since World War II was witnessed on the Chwinda front.
PAF also played a vital role in turning the circumstances in Pakistan’s favor and the aggressor’s forces were contained.
The response by Pakistani armed forces compelled India to ask for a cease-fire in the United Nations (UN) as the war had cost it heavy personnel, material and economic losses.
Pakistan Army had also captured 20 officers, 19 junior commissioned officers, and 569 of other ranks of the opponent’s army.
Major Raja Aziz Bhatti Shaheed, MM Alam, Brigadier A.A.K. Choudhry and, Brigadier A.A Malik are crowned as the heroes of the 1965 Indo-Pak war.
