Peshawar Police Ice-Cell Stifling Against Addicts, Peddlers
SSP Mansoor Amaan said that the establishment of a special cell was inevitable as the drug abuse in Peshawar had reached a high level
With the rise in drug consumption among the youth, the Peshawar police have set up a dedicated cell to control the menace of the ice-meth drug.
The capital city police will take measures to bring drug peddlers and pushers to the law.
The ice-cell operates with a staff of 22 police officials and its primary function is to collect records from 34 different police stations in Peshawar.
It is open to public informants who can register complaints against the individuals, directly and indirectly, involved in the illegal business.
For this purpose, the cell has issued special numbers through which people can approach the ice-meth cell.
More than 800 cases have been registered in the cell since the establishment of the cell until the end of 2020.
Meanwhile, the Peshawar police have so far arrested over 1,000 drug-peddlers while the volume of the recovered ice-meth is over 70-kilograms (kgs).
Further, Operations SSP Mansoor Amaan said that the establishment of a special cell was inevitable as the drug abuse in Peshawar had reached a high level.
Along with this, he added that the police lacked resources to deal with cases related to ice-drug. Therefore, a cell was established for special treatment of cases to eradicate the menace.
Expressing concerns, SSP said that the trend of intoxication was ascending at a fast pace.
