PPP elected Murtaza Wahab as Mayor of Karachi by coercion, bullying and rigging

Pakistan Peoples Party adopted all unconstitutional tactics including coercion, bullying, and rigging, but succeeded in electing Murtaza Wahab as the Mayor of Karachi with a margin of only 13 votes.

PPP candidate Murtaza Wahab managed to get 173 votes. Jamaat-e-Islami candidate Hafiz Naeemur Rehman got 160 votes. Election Commission will announce the final results.

Tehreek-e-Insaf rejected the election of Mayor Karachi as rigged and announced legal action against its absent members.

Karachi Arts Council was made the polling station for the mayoral election. The time for entering the polling hall was kept till 10:30 am, 4 counters were set up outside the Arts Council to identify the members, the voting cards were issued after showing the identity cards to the elected representatives, the members in the Arts Council Mobile phones were not allowed to be carried.

When the polling time started, the doors of Arts Council were closed and 333 members were present in the polling hall. Allegedly, 32 defected members of Tehreek-e-Insaf who were in the safe house of PPP did not reach the polling station established in Karachi Arts Council, while Firdous Shamim Naqvi and PTI. K3 elected UC chairman was brought from prison to Arts Council in an armored vehicle.

When the polling process started, Jamaat-e-Islami candidate Hafiz Naeem-ur-Rehman demanded that the polling should not start until the absent members of Tehreek-e-Insaf reached the House, however, the presiding officer rejected Jamaat-e-Islami’s demand and started the polling process. The members of Jamaat-e-Islami shouted slogans in the House.

Workers of PPP and Jamaat-e-Islami also came face to face outside the Arts Council. According to the sources, the PPP workers also pelted stones at the Jamaat-e-Islami workers under the leadership of the police.

Voting was completed for PPP’s nominee Murtaza Wahab for Mayor Karachi, after which voting was conducted for Jamaat-e-Islami’s candidate Hafiz Naeemur Rehman.

According to sources, Murtaza Wahab was elected mayor of Karachi with 173 votes. 155 members of PPP, 14 members of PML-N, and 4 members of JUI voted for Murtaza Wahab while 160 votes came for Jamaat-e-Islami candidate Hafiz Naeemur Rehman.

Meanwhile, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf has rejected the election of Mayor Karachi as rigged. In the statement issued by Tehreek-e-Insaf, it has been said that the People’s Party stole the Mayor’s election. And stopped people from voting by making arrests.

Tehreek-e-Insaf has alleged that the missing persons will be present in the safe house of the PPP and said that legal action will be taken against those who violate the party policy and those who remain absent. Tehreek-e-Insaf says that the situation of Murtaza Wahab will be like that of Hamza Shehbaz.
