PPP Emerges as The Smartest Player in The PDM

The measures by PDM have resulted in boosting the confidence of the government which had waited for a divide in opposition's alliance

Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) has been the smartest player in the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) as it has been able to convince the allies to follow in the footsteps despite that Pakistan Muslim League – Nawaz (PML-N) is the second-largest party in terms of number.

PDM’s journey started with the mission to oust the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government from power.

The PDM parties huddled up and decided to go for en masse resignations.

All parties in the opposition’s alliance agreed upon it and wanted to rush for it as they did not have anything to lose.

However, PPP which runs the Sindh province turned reluctant and persuaded other partners in the PDM to hold resignations.

Then, unlike its allies, PPP was the first party to announce that it would take part in the Senate election as it believed in the democratic process despite all reservations.

Executing the same mindset, PPP was the first in the PDM to publicize that it would contest in the by-elections too, and surprisingly, it won the first by-poll in PS-52 Umerkot.

Now, as January is coming towards an end after which PDM had to announce its date for the long march. PPP now wants to opt for a no-confidence motion against Prime Minister Imran Khan.

This has come as a blow for the PDM parties and certainly a confidence booster for the government which is reflected from the tweets of the government officials.

All this has demonstrated that PPP is the smartest player in the opposition’s alliance as it stepped back from the unanimous decisions of the PDM at all tipping points and Zardari’s recent statement that PDM is still united sounds off the point.
