PTI govt changed nine IGPs during four years in Punjab: News360 report

Despite replacing inspectors general police (IGPs) in Punjab, not a single police chief was able to work together with the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government during the last four years.

Overall nine IGs were changed in 4 years but not a single police chief managed to complete one year of posting, whereas, four IGs got fed up with the government’s behaviour and applied for transfers.

During the four-year tenure of the PTI government, the ninth IG of Punjab Police Amir Zulfiqar took charge while Muhammad Tahir had the shortest tenure of one month and four days and the longest tenure was completed by Inam Ghani who spent almost a year in his post.

According to details, IGP Punjab Dr Syed Kaleem Imam was replaced after 2 months and 29 days in 2018.

In 2019, Inspector General Police Punjab Amjad Javed Salimi was replaced after 6 months and 2 days.

In 2019, Inspector General Police Punjab Captain retired Arif Nawaz Khan was replaced after 7 months and 11 days.

In 2020, Inspector General Police Punjab Shoaib Dastgir was replaced after 9 months and 12 days.

In 2021, Inspector General of Police Inam Ghani was replaced after 11 months and 30 days.

In 2022, Inspector General Police Punjab Rao Sardar Ali Khan was replaced after 10 months and 15 days.

In 2022, Inspector General Police Punjab Faisal Shahkar was replaced after 4 months and 26 days.

According to sources, Rao Sardar Ali Khan and Faisal Shahkar were displeased with the government’s behaviour and got transferred due to a political tussle during the current year.

The 9th IGP Mohammad Amir Zulfiqar Khan has taken over the command of Punjab Police and currently working on the position.
