Covid Takes Heavy Toll on Judges of Lahore Court

2 additional session judges, 6 civil judges, a judicial magistrate, and 8 court officials were asked to quarantine after contracting the virus

Despite Punjab government is taking precautionary measures to curb the spread of the infectious virus in the province, at least 17 judges of the Lahore District Court have been tested covid positive.

A total of 77 judges from sessions court, model town court, and district and cantt kutcheries had contracted the virus during the first wave of pandemic in Pakistan.

Currently, the overall positive rate of the virus is rising across the province despite the mass vaccination drive and the members of the district court have fallen into the trap this time.

In the latest testing, 2 additional sessions judges, 6 civil judges, a judicial magistrate, and 8 court officials have contracted the virus.

Soon after the covid positive reports were confirmed, Lahore district court immediately advised all judges and staff members to put an end to their official gatherings.

Both additional sessions judges including Muhammad Sharif and Shahbaz Hussain were asked to quarantine immediately at their homes.

In the list of civil judges, Rabia Saleem, Tariq Ali, Sana Afzal, Munazza Shabbir Ahmad, Al-Basit Mudassar, and Naviza Abbas were also advised to isolate themselves and resume the office after recovery.

Moreover, Judicial Magistrate Ayaz Rafique has also been enlisted among covid patients and he has also confined himself to home.

The judicial staff has been instructed to get tested at the earliest and immediately quarantine if results are positive.
