Sadiq Sanjrani’s role becomes suspicious after Azam Swati video leak, Imran Khan gun attack

The role of Senate Chairman Sadiq Sanjrani has become suspicious after Senator Azam Swati's private video leak and gun attack on PTI chief Imran Khan during the long march.

The role of Senate Chairman Sadiq Sanjrani has become suspicious after the private video leak of Senator Azam Swati and the gun attack on Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief Imran Khan during the long march.

PTI Senator Azam Swati burst into tears before the media on Saturday and said that his wife had received an objectionable video featuring him and her.

He revealed that Senate Chairman Sadiq Sanjrani had made arrangements for them to stay at the Supreme Court’s judicial lodges in Quetta and told him to stay there as there were no SC judges in Quetta.

The developments raised many questions regarding the role of Senate Chairman Sadiq Sanjrani.

Sources said that the video was allegedly filmed during Swati’s stay at Supreme Court’s judicial lodges in Quetta where he reached over the advice of Sanjrani. They added that as per rules, the residences dedicated to SC judges could not be allotted to any individual without the permission of the Senate chairman.

The private video was leaked a few days after Swati announced to fight a long war to protect his honour. He made the statement outside the Supreme Court (SC) in connection with the controversial tweet case.

It was also learnt that Sanjrani had also held a meeting with the Punjab Chief Minister Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi one day prior to the gun attack on PTI chief Imran Khan during the long march. During the meeting, he allegedly apprised the Punjab CM Pervaiz Elahi regarding the chances of an attack on the PTI chairman.

Analysts questioned if Sanjrani knew about the assassination plot against Imran Khan then why he did not inform the federal government and the intelligence agencies.

They also expressed suspicions about how Sanjrani came to know about the assassination plot against Khan when even intelligence agencies were unaware of it.

Analysts also raised a question if the honour of parliamentarians were not safe in the country then how would be the honour of judges be protected. They added that if a senator’s video could be filmed at the judges’ special residences then judges could also be blackmailed through leaking of such videos.

According to the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) press release, the “obscene” video circulating on the internet has been “forensically analysed” and was “found to be fake”.

In other developments, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif ordered the interior ministry to take notice of the issue.

Moreover, Senate Chairman Muhammad Sadiq Sanjrani announced forming a parliamentary committee including members from all political parties to examine Swati’s leaked video issue and then compile a report which will be presented before the Upper House.

PTI chief Imran Khan strongly condemned Azam Swati’s private video leak and demanded the Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) to take suo motu notice.
