Sanaullah, Khar think diplomatic cable not even indicated any interference

Rana Sanaullah and Hina Rabbani Khar thought that the diplomatic cable was not even indicating any interference in Pakistan's affairs.

ISLAMABAD: Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah and State Minister for Foreign Affairs Hina Rabbani Khar have thought that the diplomatic cable was not even indicating any interference in the internal affairs of Pakistan.

Rana Sanaullah, while talking to Geo News programme Naya Pakistan, expressed his thoughts that it will be inappropriate to even term the contents of the diplomatic cable as any interference which is considered as a strong word.

The host questioned Sanaullah about the contents of the allegedly threatening diplomatic cable or telegram sent by the former US ambassador Asad Majeed Khan to the foreign ministry which was once again discussed by the National Security Committee (NSC) meeting chaired by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Friday.

To this, the interior minister admitted that he reviewed the diplomatic cable and the ex-envoy Asad Majeed Khan briefed the NSC participants over his telegram.

Sanaullah claimed that the former envoy categorically rejected to spot any conspiracy in his telegram. “This kind of meeting is a routine thing. We usually keep informing our government and foreign ministry regarding the details of such meetings.”

The minister claimed that many lies were told in the public regarding the diplomatic cable which did not mention any conspiracy against the Imran Khan-led Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government.

The host then questioned the interior minister about any interference. Sanaullah answered that interference is also a strong word as it was about a meeting between two persons in which they exchanged views on some matters.

Rana Sanaullah also alleged that the previous government led by PTI had misinterpreted the minutes of the meeting of the previous NSC session.

In another TV programme, the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Hina Rabbani Khar told senior anchorperson Kamran Khan that the ex-envoy Asad Majeed Khan had given his assessments and recommendations to the foreign ministry after the meeting with Donald Lu in which he asked the foreign office to issue a demarche to ascertain whether his statement was the US government’s point of view or his personal opinion.

She said that the previous government of PTI had apparently interpreted the diplomatic cable immaturely and out of the context to get some political gains.
