ISLAMABAD: Special Assistant to Prime Minister on Political Communication Dr Shahbaz Gill has slammed the management of leading newspapers for blocking journalists’ salaries and imposing unnecessary deductions despite good earnings growth.
Shahbaz Gill shared snapshots of five leading dailies of Pakistan in English and Urdu languages, captioning it, “Here are back pages of three leading English dailies of the country. The back pages are covered with government advertisements excluding the private ads and classifieds on other pages.”

The special assistant posted the pictures of the overall five dailies including Dawn, Express Tribune, The News, Nawaiwaqt and Jang.
The SAPM censured the management of the media organisations for blocking the salaries of common journalists and imposing different genres of deductions. He asked the management of the media organisations to fix the salaries of the journalists in accordance with their good earnings growth.
The federal government had consistently been blamed for the media crisis in Pakistan by blocking the payments of their advertisements to the media organisations, especially newspapers that led to the unemployment of thousands of journalists across the country.
On the other hand, the federal government had made claims that a major portion of the dues to the media organisations was cleared and next payments were scheduled.
However, the recent claims by Shahbaz Gill were an eye-opener for the journalists who are facing lay-offs, non-payment of salaries and deductions in media houses across Pakistan.
