Sialkot public gathering to be a test case for Imran Khan
The Sialkot administration used state power to stop the preparations of the PTI for a peaceful public gathering of Imran Khan at CTI Ground scheduled to be held today.
The Sialkot administration used state power to stop the preparations of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) for a peaceful public gathering of Imran Khan at CTI Ground scheduled to be held today.
It is the first threat from the administration to the PTI organising back-to-back successful public gatherings led by Imran Khan. PTI Vice-President Shah Mehmood Qureshi said that Imran Khan would definitely come to Sialkot for the rally.
The Sialkot administration came into action against PTI organisers late Friday night after denying permission for Imran Khan’s public gathering at CTI Ground. Heavy contingents of police force gathered at late night along with heavy machinery.
In the morning, police teams charged batons, fired teargas shells and arrested PTI leaders including Usman Dar and workers following the instructions of DPO Sialkot.
Qureshi asked PTI workers to remain peaceful and they will move to the court. He clarified that the Punjab government will be responsible for any untoward situation.
Sialkot developments become a top trend on Twitter.
The PTI’s official Twitter handle said, “Imported Government has PANICKED! They are trying to undo Jalsa set up but #SialkotFightsBack against this tyranny and will not be a spectator as Imported Govt tries to force Jalsa Cancellation.”

Yesterday, the Sialkot district administration raised an objection that the PTI organisers did not seek permission from the CTI Ground’s owners for holding its public gathering at the venue in Sialkot.
The PTI organisers were asked to change the venue from CTI ground to Government Murray College Ground or Sports Gymnasium Pasrur Road.
PTI leader Usman Dar had rejected to change the venue of the PTI’s public gathering and directed the activists to reach the CTI ground and criticised Sialkot’s administration for creating hurdles in a peaceful power show on the behest of the ‘unconstitutional’ chief minister Hamza Shahbaz.
