Karachi Traders Hold Hunger Strike Against Time Restriction

They have strongly condemned the government’s decision to close shops at 8 pm, demanding an extension in the business hours till 10 pm

Rejecting the Sindh government’s covid restriction on timings, the traders of Karachi have announced a hunger strike at the MA Jinnah Road today.

The traders have strongly condemned the government’s decision to close shops at 8 pm, demanding an extension in the business hours till 10 pm.

Karachi Tajir Action Committee (KTAC) has organized a hunger strike which will be attended by the traders of all markets.

The business leaders said they are facing severe financial difficulties due to the coronavirus sanctions and their protest will continue until the government withdraws the notification.

In other provinces, the traders are allowed to operate at least until 10 pm and so is the demand of the business community of Sindh.

Talking to News360, All Karachi Traders Alliance (AKTA) Chairman Hakeem Shah said that the protest will be attended by the traders’ associations of all markets that strongly oppose the decision.

He added that since all the traders are vaccinated against coronavirus, the authorities shall now allow them to increase business hours or open the markets throughout the week.

Moreover, Karachi Electronic Market Association (KEMA) President Rizwan Irfan said that he rejects the government’s decision to close the businesses till 8 pm.

Further, he said that since the shops remain closed twice a week, traders are not able to cover their expenses or pay salaries to their employees.
