Sukkur Becomes a City With High Buildings in Narrow Streets

SBCA allegedly colluded with the municipal corporation after receiving backhanders and green-signaled construction of multi-storey buildings on minuscule plots

Sindh Building Control Authority (SBCA) has given the green-signal for the construction of multi-storey buildings in the narrow streets of Sukkur.

It has been learned that SBCA officials allegedly took hush money from the municipal corporation and turned a blind eye to the illegal practice in different neighborhoods of Sukkur.

Therefore, several structures have sprung up in the narrow lanes and streets across the city particularly in old city areas.

The neighborhoods located along Queens Road and Gurdwara Chowk near Sukkur’s famous landmark Ghanta Ghar have been clustered with skinny multi-storey buildings on minuscule plots.

The building bylaws have also been severely violated in the construction of these structures and owing to this, the dwellers face an imminent threat of a mishap that could occur at any moment.

The locals of the area and civil society have demanded the SBCA to take notice of unruly constructions.

They said that the authority should take punitive action against the unscrupulous elements.

They expressed that the SBCA should give exemplary punishment to involved officials such that it develops deterrence.
