Widely-admired Maulana Tariq Jameel had earlier passed a disturbing statement that coronavirus has been unleashed on humanity because of the ‘wrongdoing of women’.
During a televised prayer, Maulana condemned women for dancing and for how they dress, saying these “immodest actions” have brought the Almighty’s wrath upon the country.
These misogynistic remarks were made during the Ehsaas Telethon fundraising event in the presence of the prime minister and top broadcast journalists.
Soon after the negative speech blaming women for the spread of coronavirus, there was an uproar by many, objecting to Maulana’s comments.
Minister for Human Rights Shireen Mazari criticized such thinking as ludicrous and ignorant.
Mazari said the idea “COVID19 pandemic is a result of women wearing short sleeves or [because] of private schools/universities misleading the youth is simply absurd”.
Simply absurd 4 anyone under any guise to even suggest the COVID19 pandemic is a result of women wearing short sleeves or bec of private schools/universities misleading the youth. This simply reflects either ignorance abt pandemics or a misogynist mindset. Absolutely unacceptable.

In the recent video which has been shared on the microblogging website Twitter, Maulana admitted that during the first wave of coronavirus, he had gotten a video uploaded and did not know what the pathogen was.
