Nestle Pakistan to Face Criminal Trial – First Time

Lahore High Court (LHC) has ordered to start a trial against Nestle Pakistan as a one-month-old infant died after consuming formula milk

Lahore High Court (LHC) has withdrawn the police report regarding Nestle Pakistan and ordained to start a criminal trial against the food company as a one-month-old infant died after consuming formula milk.

Barrister and Human Rights Activist Hassaan Niazi shared that the report submitted by the police was termed falsified by the court and a trial has been launched against the company.

The father of infant, Usman Bhatti, accused the food company of selling contaminated formula milk.

First Information Report (FIR) stated that the daughter of the complainant fell ill after the consumption of a Nestle product and was taken immediately to the hospital, but she couldn’t survive.

The incident transpired three years ago and it took another 18 months for the registration of a case against the company.

Hassaan posted the news and said that Bhatti’s newborn was given Nestle Lactogen-I powdered milk which resulted in her death.

Hassaan also slammed the Punjab Police and said that the provincial law enforcers were under pressure from the food company.

The police report absolutely favored Nestle which showed the poor law and order situation in the country, he contended in a live session on his Twitter handle.

Despite the complainant was pressurized and threatened by the food giant multiple times during the three-year period, he stayed persistent did not back off from the case.

The forensic report revealed that the amount of calcium and potassium in ‘Lactogen-I’ was very high owing to which the infant’s breath shortened and she was rushed to the hospital.

Similarly across seven seas, Johnson & Johnson, a United States (US) multinational company that manufactures baby skin products, medical devices, and medicines, stopped selling its products in the US and neighboring Canada last year after facing thousands of lawsuits and allegations against it.

Shares of Johnson & Johnson also plunged by 10% after the company, worth $421.75 billion, had found its products of substandard quality. In 2019, the company paid $400 million to set aside litigation expenses.

The Missouri Court of Appeals has asked the company to pay $2.1 billion to a group of 22 women, who alleged that the company’s powder caused them ovarian cancer.
