Is WhatsApp Arising as Most Widely Used Communication Platform?

The coronavirus pandemic put people at bay as social distancing became mandatory but to cater to their needs of communicating remotely, records show that Whatsapp is emerging as the most widely used platform for connecting people across the globe.

New single-day personal records were set as more than 1.4 billion voice and video calls were made on Whatsapp on New Year’s Eve, manifesting its claims of being the most-widely used communication platform across the world.

It was seen that billions of people across the globe turned to Whatsapp to wish their loved ones who all were restricted to homes due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Facebook, which owns Whatsapp and Instagram, termed the New Year’s Eve as the ‘busiest night’ in history for its services.

More than 1.4 billion voice and video calls were made on the day which Facebook claims the ‘most’ it has handled in a single day.

The number of calls made on the eve before the first day of the new decade was over 50% of the calls it handled last year on the same day.

Certainly, this new record endorses the growing importance, love and reliance of global users for Whatsapp.

Similarly, Facebook’s messenger also saw gigantic volumes of group video calls on the platform on the day.

Meanwhile, Instagram Live and Facebook Live ran over 55 million live streams on New Year’s Eve.
