Twitter Refuses to Join Hands With Facebook For Taliban Ban

After the change of regime in Afghanistan, Facebook confirmed its continuation of the ban on the Taliban as a terrorist group while Twitter refuses to join its counterpart.

Contrary to Twitter, WhatsApp and Instagram, both owned by Facebook, have also announced that the platforms will not allow any accounts promoting or praising the Taliban.

The decisions surfaced after the announcement of the militia’s victory in Afghanistan a few days back.
Twitter said in a statement that “it would continue to proactively enforce its rules on the glorification of violence, platform manipulation and spam”.
While on the other hand, Facebook owner Mark Zuckerberg isn’t willing to allow the Taliban to use the platforms owned by Facebook.
“The Taliban is sanctioned as a terrorist organization under US law and we have banned them from our services under our Dangerous Organization policies. This means we remove accounts maintained by or on behalf of the Taliban and prohibit praise, support, and representation of them”, a Facebook spokesperson told BBC.
Facebook also added that the platform will be monitoring the content with the help of a dedicated team of Afghanistan experts.
