The Tennis Player Who Takes Mid-Match ‘Toilet Breaks’

It was reported that Stefanos, 23, took an 8-minute break for the third time towards the end of the third set of his US Open game with Andy Murray

Greek Tennis player Stefanos Tsitsipas is in the hot water for taking three long toilet breaks in the middle of a match and his opponent Andy Murray has raised objections to the management.

The break was taken when Stefanos and Murray were playing the second-round match on August 28 at the US Open and the complainant demanded a rule change.

It was reported that Stefanos, 23, took an 8-minute break for the third time towards the end of the third set.

Commenting on the crowd’s boo reaction, the Greek tennis player told the media, “I haven’t done anything wrong, and so I don’t understand.”

Andy Murray was of the view that Stefanos has repeatedly taken breaks which affects the outcome of the match and so he demanded action from the umpire.

“It’s just disappointing because I feel it influenced the outcome of the match … I have zero time for that stuff at all, and I lost respect for him”, he said.

Countering his statement, Tsitsipas defended himself by saying that The Grand Slam rule book allows players to take a reasonable amount of time.

After the match, British tennis player Murray took to his Twitter handle and sighed over Stefanos’ washroom breaks.

He also termed his opponents’ toilet visits with Jeff Bezos’ visit to space.

Previously, he had been repeatedly criticized for leaving the court multiple times and going on long washroom breaks.
