PSL Faces Challenge to Stop Biosecure Bubble Breach

Peshawar Zalmi’s captain Wahab Riaz and coach Darren Sammy had broken the protocols of the biosecure bubble on February 21

The implementation of protocols of the biosecure bubble in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 6 has become a point at issue after Islamabad United’s leg spinner Fawad Ahmed resulted back positive for coronavirus.

The strictures set by the PSL management for the biosecure bubble are apparently not being implemented by the players and teams’ staff which is thus a challenge for the officials.

Islamabad United officials said that the Australian-Pakistan legspinner had shown symptoms two days ago and had been immediately isolated.

Other members of the squad have tested negative, they asserted.

The match between Quetta Gladiators and Islamabad United, originally scheduled for Monday, will be played today.

Fawad Ahmed thanked his fans for the wishes and urged them to remember him in prayers.

Fawad Ahmed’s case is not the first incident of the biosecure bubble breach in PSL 6.

Peshawar Zalmi’s captain Wahab Riaz and coach Darren Sammy had broken the protocols of the biosecure bubble on February 21.

They had been strictly directed to observe three-day isolation after it was disclosed that they met a person outside the bubble when it was prohibited.

Meanwhile, the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC), the nerve center for deciding upon coronavirus-related issues, has allowed 50 percent crowd in the stadium which looks critical now as it could send positive cases in the country to a spike.

Further, so far, Islamabad United has played three matches against different teams and the infected player may have stayed in contact with other players.

With all circumstances under consideration, the future of PSL 6 has become a point at issue and how Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) manages the challenge will be a new test.
