Rising Inflation in Pakistan During 2020 Squashed Masses

A comparison of the rates of daily-use products between the previous and current year shows deflection in price percentage

The people of Pakistan were squashed by the inflation in outgoing 2020 as the price of different commodities surged unrulily.

Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) released figures which conveyed that the inflation hit the people of Pakistan hard in 2020.

A comparison of the rates of daily-use products between the previous and current year shows deflection in price percentage.

As per PBS documents, the price of a 20/kilogram(kg) flour bag surged by Rs 130 while Ghee increased by Rs 53/kg in 2020.

During the lockdown, the price of milk per liter initially dropped by Rs 30 but later again rose by Rs 40/liter.

The cost of different varieties of lentils went up by Rs 15/kg during 2020.

However, the price of potatoes rose by Rs 40/kg during the current year.

The rates of potatoes remained stable throughout the year and the price change was only recorded to be Rs 4/kg.

However, the year is closing with the price of potatoes at Rs 40 per kg.

During the year 2020, the price of sugar increased by Rs 30 per kg while it remained highest during October at Rs 103/kg.

In 2020, the price of eggs per dozen increased by Rs 76.

When compared to 2019, eggs/dozen were sold for Rs 124 while in December during the current year, eggs/dozen are available for Rs 200.

The rate of broiler chicken jumped from Rs 170/kg to Rs 230/kg.

PBS documents stated that the price of a 2.5 kg pack of ghee surged by Rs 78.55.

As compared to December 2019, the rate of ghee pack available in Rs 190 jumped to Rs 260.

The rate of fresh milk per liter rose by Rs 11 and its last recorded price is Rs 120/liter while yogurt was up by Rs 13/kg during 2020.

The price of mutton increased by Rs 99/kg during the current year while the price of beef was hiked by Rs 44/kg.

The silver linings were the rates of tomatoes which dropped by Rs 95/kg as compared to 2019 and of onion and garlic which decreased by Rs 16/kg and Rs 35/kg respectively.
