Farmers Hoist Nishan Sahib At Delhi’s Red Fort
Thousands of protesting farmers have begun driving into Delhi on tractors on India's Republic Day
India’s Republic Day is celebrated every year on January 26 to commemorate the date on which the Constitution of India was promulgated, however this year, India will be seeing an unusual republic day as farmers will be taking out one of the biggest rallies called tractor rally to protest against anti-farmer’s legislation.
India’s Republic Day is celebrated all across India with zeal and fervor. At Rajpath, in Delhi, magnificent parades by regiments of the Indian Army, Navy, Air Force, police, and paramilitary forces are organized to mark the republic day.
This year, all eyes are set not only on the latest missiles, aircraft, and other military equipment but also on the tractors which will be part of the ‘Kisan Gantantra Parade’ or what has come to be known as the ‘tractor rally’.
Thousands of tractors are lining up on the outskirts of New Delhi, ready to swarm the Indian capital in a protest against new agriculture reforms that have triggered a growing farmer rebellion that has rattled the government.
Tens of thousands of farmers have been blocking key highways connecting New Delhi with the country’s north for almost two months demanding revocation of the laws.
They plan to parade through the capital in a massive tractor rally when India celebrates Republic Day.

The tractor rally being staged by the defiant farmers is being seen by the Delhi police as a huge law and order challenge on India’s Republic Day which is celebrated in India on the 26th of January every year.
Farmers say the legislation passed by Parliament last September will lead to the cartelization and commercialization of agriculture, make farmers vulnerable to corporate greed and devastate their earnings.
Recently, protesting farmers clashed with police at several places in the national capital and entered the iconic Red Fort and ITO in the heart of the national capital, with hundreds of them deviating from pre-decided routes, prompting security personnel to resort to lathi-charge and tear gas.
