Is Khalid Mansoor The Right Choice For Overseeing CPEC?

Replacing Retired Lt Gen Asim Saleem Bajwa from the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) Authority Chairman, Khalid Mansoor is appointed as Special Assistant to the Prime Minister (SAPM) to look after the affairs of the body.

A notification has been issued by the Prime Minister Office (PMO) in this regard.

Asim Bajwa became chairman of the newly-created CPEC Authority in November 2019 after he retired from the Pakistan Army and during the tenure of four years, he proactively looked after the project.

Taking to his Twitter handle, Asim Bajwa announced his departure, claiming Khalid Mansoor as the “fully equipped” to lead the CPEC authority in the future.

He termed CPEC as a “lifeline for Pakistan”, adding it would transform the country into a progressive and developed country.

Moreover, Federal Planning Minister Asad Umar paid regards to Bajwa for his services and welcomed Khalid Mansoor as the special assistant to the prime minister for CPEC affairs.

Considering the diversified background, the newly appointed SAPM Khalid Mansoor is being considered a perfect fit for the new role.

Mansoor, who holds a degree in chemical engineering, served as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Hub Power Company Limited (Hubco) and is the chairman of Laraib Energy Limited, a subsidiary of Hubco.

He was also the chairman of Independent Power Producers Advisory Council (IPPAC).

Khalid has experience of more than 32 years in the energy and petrochemical sectors in leading roles for mega-size projects’ development, execution, management, and operations.

According to Engro Energy’s website, he recently re-joined the board of the Sindh Engro Coal Mining Company (SECMC) as a director.
