CII Advises ‘Harsh Measures’ Against Temple Desecration

The council said that such diabolical act was a clear violation of the constitution and Shariah and all perpetrators must be prosecuted under the law

The Council of Islamic Ideology (CII) has strongly condemned the tragic incident of demolition and desecration of a Hindu temple in ​​Rahim Yar Khan district and joined the chorus of condemnation against the act.

A mob attacked a Hindu worship site on August 4, Ganesh Temple, in Bhong city of Rahim Yar Khan district and burnt it down, damaging the infrastructure and idols.

The videos ran rife on social media and sources claimed that the main cause of it was in reaction to the alleged desecration of a Muslim seminary in the city.

Condemning the incident, the council released a statement saying the minorities, their religion, and worship sites in Pakistan come under the protection of the state according to the constitution.


The council emphasized that such intolerable action was a clear violation of the constitution and Shariah.

It further demanded all perpetrators must be prosecuted according to the law to curb future possibilities of such untoward incidents.

The council said the move caused a huge dent in the ongoing efforts for building interfaith harmony in Pakistan.

CII said the action also violated the Paigham-i-Pakistan fatwa which guarantees the protection of lives and properties of all non-Muslim citizens and their worship sites.

CII hailed Prime Minister Imran Khan’s timely notice of the incident and rebuilding of the temple.

It also commended the Punjab government for quickly arresting the suspects and the Supreme Court (SC) for taking notice of it.
