Red Sox Beat the Yankees in the A.L.
Boston eliminated its A.L. East archrival at Fenway Park and advanced to a division series matchup with the Tampa Bay Rays
Former Yankees worker Garrett Whitlock entered the game to start the ninth and end his old club’s season.
It wasn’t entirely clean. With an out, Giancarlo Stanton wrapped a flyball around the pesky pole in right field to make Game 6-2, but that wasn’t enough when Whitlock got Joey Gallo and Gleyber Torres to fly right to end the game. The Red Sox will rise to a divisional series showdown with the Tampa Bay Rays as the Yankees’ once promising season is over.
Chad Green was back to start eighth and he started with a quick strikeout from Hunter Renfroe. Christian Vazquez, who made his first record of the game, also struck. That left it to Bobby Dalbec, who rolled into third place.

It all boils down to the start of the ninth season as the Yankees season is on the brink of a devastating collapse.
Gary Sanchez came up as a pinch hitter for catcher Kyle Higashioka, but if you blinked you lost it when he threw a fly in the middle on the first pitch he saw from new Red Sox rescuer Hansel Robles. Rougned Odor continued his lead and Anthony Rizzo finished the halfinning with three strokes. Yankees hitters have three more outs to make up a deficit of five or their season is over.
Jonathan Loaisiga started the middle goal by rolling Christian Arroyo into third place. The empty bases didn’t hold up.Loaisiga went Kyle Schwarber (not great, but better than swinging Schwarber over to the fences), and he hit eight balls in a row by pacing Enrique Hernandez on four pitches.
