Hemp Cultivation Seems Financially Rewarding
According to the survey, if factories are established for hemp cultivation, an acre of land can generate an income of Rs 1.5 to 2 million through CBD oil
On the directives of Prime Minister Imran Khan, the Cabinet had approved a survey for hemp cultivation in Pakistan in 3 districts like Khyber, Orakzai, and Kurram for medical and industrial use.
Pir Mehr Ali Shah Arid Agriculture University and the Pakistan Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (PCSIR) have teamed up for the pilot project, which has already submitted its preliminary report to the provincial government.
The survey analyzes covers hemp cultivation, its area, its potential production, and whether factories can be set up in these areas for medical and industrial needs.
According to the survey, hemp can be grown in large quantities in the above-mentioned 3 districts.
The area of 3 districts is capable of producing about 30 to 40 tons of hemp, as well as 1,000 tons of Cannabidiol (CBD) oil and 1,000 tons of fiber.

Last year in September, the federal cabinet had green-lighted the issuance of the first license for medical and industrial use of hemp leaves.
