SIM Cards of Deceased Still Operative in Huge Numbers
The standing committee termed the issuance and use of illegal SIMs as a major threat to national security
During the meeting of the National Assembly Standing Committee on Information Technology and Telecommunications, it was revealed that thousands of SIM cards registered in the name of the deceased are still operative.
It was also disclosed during the meeting that despite several reminders, Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) hasn’t formulated a system to block SIM cards on the names of deceased along with those issued illegally.

The committee termed the issuance and use of illegal SIMs as a major threat to national security.
The panel, which was chaired by Ali Khan Jadoon, developed a comprehensive approach to deal with the issue.
It was directed in the meeting to work out a detailed system in collaboration with the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) to block the cards issued in the name of the deceased.

The PTA official informed the committee that NADRA has showed its consent to share the data of the deceased with them.
The authority will immediately take action against all illegal SIM cards and will block it, the official informed the committee.
