SOC Animated Film Moots Domestic Violence Amid Pandemic

The film caters to Asghari and her parents, highlighting ways in which women can face abusive attitudes and environments

Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy’s SOC Films have released the fourth and final animated film titled Domestic Violence during the covid-19 pandemic in collaboration with the Idara-e-Taleem-o-Aagahi program.

The film is from the animated series Siyani Sahelian launched in March 2018, aiming to tackle gender inequality for disadvantaged out-of-school adolescent girls in 480 towns and villages across the country.

Mainly cases from three districts of south Punjab including Muzaffargarh, Bahawalpur, and Rahim Yar Khan are discussed in the film.

The outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic has negatively impacted the world in various aspects and to date, some countries are still struggling to mend the loss.

Similarly, Pakistan witnessed an increase in domestic violence cases against women especially during the pandemic.

The public places aren’t safer for women as before and the animated film has provided solutions in detail.

The final film is scripted by Safyah Usmani with animation by Kulsum Ibrahim, edited by Nina Zehri and Meer Farhad Jamali, and voiceovers have been done by Rabia Kiran Rajput, Mariam Rizvi, and Ali Akbar.

In this part, Asghari, the main lead along with her parents, highlights ways in which women and girls can face abusive attitudes and environments.

So far, Siyani Sahelian has empowered more than 35,000 out-of-school adolescent girls in South Punjab through technical & vocational education & training, and life skills.
