Court gives last chance to Rana Shamim for bringing original affidavit before court

Following the affidavit of former Chief Justice Gilgit-Baltistan Rana Muhammad Shamim regarding the affidavit of former Chief Justice Saqib Nisar, the Islamabad High Court has given remarks of Court of Contempt in contempt of court case against Rana Muhammad Shamim, journalist Ansar Abbasi, owner of Jang Group. Mir Shakeel-ur-Rehman and Editor-in-Chief Amir Ghauri have sounded the alarm.

ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Wednesday issued written order of the last hearing in the Ordered to be contempt of court case on the news of affidavit of former Gilgit-Baltistan Chief Justice Rana Shamim.

The court in its written judgment dated December 7 wrote that it seems that Rana Mohammad Shamim himself has leaked the affidavit and it does not include good intentions.

The court said in a written decision that it appears that the contents of the affidavit were compiled carelessly. Rana gives Shamim one last chance to bring the affidavit before the court.

According to the order, Rana Shamim took the position that he did not share a copy of the affidavit with anyone nor did he share the affidavit with Ansar Abbasi, Amir Ghauri, Mir Shakeel-ur-Rehman.

It was stated in the written order that Rana Shamim alleged that the affidavit was not published with his consent, there could be serious consequences against the person responsible for this whole matter. Gone. For more than 3 years, silent questions have been raised about the reputation of Rana Shamim.

Islamabad High Court Chief Justice Athar Minallah, while issuing a five-page order, said that the responses of all parties, including Rana Shamim and Mir Shakeel-ur-Rehman, were unsatisfactory. Should all parties be charged?

The court wrote in its order that the timing of publication of the news is very important as it relates to the appeals which were scheduled for hearing.

The court said in a written order that they give Rana Shamim one last chance to bring the original affidavit before the court. Further hearing of the contempt case will be held on December 13.

It may be recalled that in response to Rana Muhammad Shamim’s affidavit regarding former Chief Justice Saqib Nisar, PML-N Vice President Marham Nawaz had written on social networking site Twitter that “oppression goes away when it goes too far. Nawaz Sharif’s innocence has been proved by Allah.

Analysts say it remains to be seen whether the affidavit that was published by senior journalist Ansar Abbasi in The News or something else comes to light. If the same affidavit comes to light then journalist Ansar Abbasi, Jang owner Mir Shakeel-ur-Rehman and Editor-in-Chief will be spared otherwise they may be charged with contempt of court.

Analysts say that everything that was written seemed wrong. And the interesting thing is that the affidavit was written there which has nothing to do with our justice system i.e. in London. Even those who printed the affidavit did not bother to look at the facts and what is being printed.
