French Catholic Church Abused Thousands of Children

The 2,500-page long report said that the majority of the victims were boys aged between 10 and 13

The French Catholic Church is found involved in sexual abuse of some 216,000 children since 1950, a damning new inquiry revealed.

The report said that among the children, mostly were boys who were abused by nearly 2,900-3,200 molesters who used to work in the Catholic Church between 1950-2020.

It was also said that the protection of the institution was prioritized over the victims.

“The Catholic Church is the place where the prevalence of sexual violence is at its highest, other than in family and friend circles”, said the report.

Sharing his grief on the revelations, Pope Francis expressed that he felt pain on the inquiry.

As per a statement issued by the Vatican, the Pope’s first thoughts are for the victims with a deep sadness for their wounds and gratitude for their courage in coming forward.

As per details, the independent inquiry was commissioned by the Church in 2018.

The 2,500-page long report said that the majority of the victims were boys aged between 10 and 13.

The head of inquiry Jean-Marc Sauvé said that there was a whole bunch of negligence, deficiency, silence, and cover-up.

“The victims are not believed, are not listened to. When they are listened to, they are considered to have perhaps contributed to what they had happened to them”, he added.
