IHC issues show-cause notices to Rana Shamim, Mir Shakil, Ansar Abbasi, Amir Ghori
Chief Justice Athar Minallah observes there is a difference between social media and newspaper.
The Islamabad High Court has issued show-cause notices to Rana Shamim, Mir Shakil ur Rehman, Ansar Abbasi and newspaper editor during a suo motu hearing of a case relating to the statement of former chief justice of GB.
The IHC had decided to begin contempt of court proceedings.
All the parties have been directed to submit reply to the court within seven days.

Despite the court notice, former chief judge Gilgit-Baltistan Rana Shamim did not appear in court. However, his son appeared in court and told the IHC Chief Justice that his father had arrived in Islamabad last night from New York and is not feeling well.
Rana Shamim’s son sought permission from the court to play video in courtroom.
The chief Justice remarked it was being said that the affidavit is fake and asked the Attorney General what would be the consequences if it proved wrong?
Attorney General Khalid Javed said that it is simply a criminal act. Rana Shamim’s brother had died on Nov 6 and he went to London on Nov 10 to record the affidavit.
The chief justice of Islamabad High Court called the editor in chief Mir Shakil-ur-Rehman on the rostrum and observed:” You have been summoned with a very heavy heart.”
He remarked that there is a difference between social media and newspapers. Newspaper has an editorial policy and editorial control. It was talked about a judge of the high court, which works fearlessly.
Justice Athar Minallah observed that if I was not confident about my judges, it would not have started processing. The judges of this court are accountable and they face criticism.
The chief justice inquired if a former chief judge gave an oath, would you print that on front page? Bring proofs and we will also take action against the former chief justice of Pakistan, Chief Justice Athar Minallah remarked.
Justice Athar Minallah remarked that we had no intention as you are thinking, it is constantly being said that Nawaz Sharif and Maryam Nawaz should not be released before the election. At least you confirmed from our registrar before publishing the news, he added.
While addressing to Ansar Abbasi, Chief Justice Athar Minallah said that when the appeal was filed on July 16 and Justice Aamer Farooq was not in the country, is this your investigation?
Later, the hearing was adjourned till Nov 26.
