Pervez Hoodbhoy Burka Comment Lambasted by Left Wing

“You hardly see a normal woman in classes anymore, we rarely see them asking any question in class because they don’t have any confidence at all”, he said

The comment of Nuclear Physicist Pervez Hoodbhoy on women wearing burka has landed him in hot water as even the left-wingers on social media denounced his school of thought.

While talking at Gharidah Farooqi’s show, Pervez said that throughout his teaching career, he has observed that women who wear hijab are abnormal as they aren’t very outspoken.

“You hardly see a normal woman in classes anymore, we rarely see them asking any question in class because they don’t have any confidence at all”, he said.

Soon after the video went viral, Pervez was badly criticized for his one-sided views despite teaching at the university level for decades.

In this regard, senior journalist Asma Shirazi penned down her experience while working in the media industry as a hijabi woman.

Asma said that it is a woman’s personal choice to cover her head or wear a dupatta and that doesn’t change her believes or personality.

Moreover, actress Amar Khan is also of the view that wearing a hijab isn’t going to make a woman any less confident.

One of the Facebook users named Aisha Aijaz also found Pervez Hoodbhoy’s comment ‘deeply disturbing, derogatory and dishonest’.

“Hijabies are equally vocal and interactive in class if not more than the non-hijabis. Hoodbhoy Sahab has a very old-fashioned and biased view regarding burqa and hijab”, she wrote.

Reacting to Hoodbhoy’s thoughts, 7se8 host Kiran Naz wore a hijab while opening the show and said that by doing so, she still feel empowered and nothing has changed for her.
