Constitutional Institutions Face Blistering Criticism by Adversaries

With their latest moves, Election Commission of Pakistan and Supreme Court have drawn the ire of the government and lawyers respectively

The constitutional institutions in the country faced blistering criticism by their adversaries who found fault with their decisions.

With their latest moves, Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) and Supreme Court (SC) have drawn the ire of the government and lawyers respectively.

After ECP has raised objections to the electronic voting machine (EVM) invented by the PTI-led government, the government seems to have lost cool against it.

Federal Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry declared ECP as the headquarters of the opposition parties.

He also accused the chief election commissioner of speaking the language of the opposition parties.

Fawad’s criticism on the commission was a sequel of Railways Minister Azam Swati’s rebuking earlier on Friday.

The latter had accused ECP of rigging in the polls and suggested setting ‘such institutions on fire’.

A day before ECP episode, the lawyers across Pakistan went on a strike on Thursday against the elevation of junior judges to the Supreme Court (SC) and did not participate in the court proceedings.

The boycott by the legal practitioners was done on the call of the various bodies of lawyers across the country.

A large protest was also staged on the premises of the Supreme Court (SC) and protesters chanted slogans against the appointment of the junior judges.

The analysts have expressed serious concerns on criticism on the constitutional institutions and termed it an unhealthy omen for the system of the state.
