Nighat Dad Answerable to Govt Over Theft of Foreign Funds
Though she has earned many international awards in the field of IT security but analysts say that the recent accusation will land her in great trouble
Internet Activist and Lawyer Nighat Dad is in dire straits as Ministry of Economic Affairs (MEA) has canceled its Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Digital Rights Foundation (DRF) over embezzlement of foreign funds.
Though Nighat has earned many international awards in the field of IT security but analysts say that the recent accusation will land her in great trouble.
Back in 2012, she established DRF as an executive director (ED) to educate Pakistani internet users, particularly women, to protect themselves from online harassment.

In the recent development, Economic Affairs Division (EAD) was going to sign a memorandum with DRF but it couldn’t proceed.
According to EAD’s notification, the agreement has been terminated as the timeline of submitted projects has been expired and the withdrawal of security clearance.
Moreover, Nighat Dad is accused of receiving foreign funding and using it to defame Pakistan.

Following the cancellation of the agreement, actress Zainab Qayoom shared an audio clip of a university student who revealed how Nighat and her organization use to trap the young generation.
In the audio clip, the student said she was harassed by the officer with whom social worker Nighat connected her to handle her harassment case.
When contacted again, regarding calls and messages received from that officer, Nighat dealt with the situation saying that this is normal to link up to get the matter resolved.

Nighat as a social activist failed to provide justice to that university student and now she is answerable to the ministry of economic affairs for misusing foreign funds.
