Maryam Nawaz withdraws petition seeking return of passport

Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Vice-President Maryam Nawaz has withdrawn her petition in the LHC seeking the return of her passport.

LAHORE: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Vice-President Maryam Nawaz has withdrawn her petition in the Lahore High Court (LHC) seeking the return of her passport.

After Maryam Nawaz withdrew her petition, the court dismissed the case. Maryam had filed a petition in the Lahore High Court (LHC) seeking the return of passport for performing Umrah.

In the petition, Maryam Nawaz stated that she wants to go to Saudi Arabia for performing Umrah.

However, two LHC division benches have recused themselves from hearing the petition in the span of one day. The recusation from the divisional benches came for the third time to hear the petition.

Later, a new bench comprising Justice Ali Baqar Najafi and Justice Sardar Ahmad Naeem was constituted to hear the petition. It may be noted here that the same bench had earlier approved the bail plea of Maryam Nawaz and Nawaz Sharif’s petition to travel abroad on medical grounds.

However, the PML-N VP withdrew her petition during today’s hearing.

The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) had earlier submitted its reply to the LHC, opposing to return the passport to Maryam Nawaz as the proceedings in her bail plea in the Chaudhry Sugar Mills case continued in the Supreme Court (SC).
