Pakistani Analysts Believe Corruption Prospered China

The internet users were unable to believe their ears after Pakistani analyst Reema Omer claimed that the main reason behind the development of China is that it did not stop corruption in its institutions.

During a TV talk show on Geo News Report Card, the host questioned the panel regarding the recent assertions of Prime Minister Imran Khan on the growth and development in China.

During an interview, the premier hailed the Communist Party of China for its unique model of governance and listed down its strong features.

He added that such flexibility flourished the economy and led to speedy development in China.

The journalist Adeel Raja shared the views of analyst Reema Omer who opposed Imran Khan and claimed that China prospered because it gave green-signal to corruption.

She called for dismantling National Accountability Bureau (NAB) so that Pakistan can progress.

Responding to a query how China reduced poverty and increased its Gross Domestic Product (GDP), Reema said it’s because it let the institutions work and did not object corruption.

However, the reality is different from Reema’s statement as China follows a zero-tolerance policy on corruption.

A number of Twitter users called into question her claim as well as the credibility of senior analyst Hafeezullah Niazi, who nodded his head when Reema was making the comment.

Last year, China’s National People’s Congress (NPC) amended country’s criminal law and increased penalties against non-state functionaries.

Under the current framework, the law penalizes all those people who are involved in taking or soliciting bribes, embezzling company assets, and grafting company funds.

The annual report of the Supreme People’s Procuratorate stated that 18,585 people were prosecuted for crimes related to corruption in 2019, a 90% year-on-year increase.

The report further added that more than a million officials were punished under the anti-corruption campaign.
