TTP Leader Ehsanullah’s Escape Was Internally Backed: DG ISPR

Ehsanullah Ehsan, who surrendered under an agreement, fled military custody and disclosed that in a short audio message released on January 11, 2020

Former spokesman of Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), Ehsanullah Ehsan, escaped the military custody with the collusion of a few military personnel, confirmed the Director-General (DG) of the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) Major General Babar Iftikhar while interacting with international media today.

The spokesman further maintained that the progress in this regard will be shared soon.

A high-profile TTP leader was held by the military who made a live confession on television in 2017.

Ehsanullah Ehsan, who surrendered under an agreement, fled military custody and disclosed that in a short audio message released on January 11, 2020.

He claimed that he had honored his part of the agreement and alleged that Pakistani authorities failed to keep their words and violated the terms.

The government retained silence over the matter for around 10 days before the interior minister endorsed it.

The news of his escape was confirmed by former Interior Minister Ijaz Shah who maintained that “the state is aware” during an informal conversation with reporters.

As per sources, Ehsan had to face trials for multiple crimes. Important information had to be extracted from the TTP leader and it was during one such instance that he managed to flee.
