The spacecraft will travel more than 7 times the journey undertaken by the UAE’s Hope probe to Mars.

The UAE Space Agency said the 5-year expedition would be launched in 2028 as the spacecraft for the mission would be developed in seven years.

Laboratory for Atmospheric and Space Physics (LASP) at the University of Colorado, Boulder, has teamed up with UAE Space Agency for the preparation of the spacecraft mission.

The mission is part of the country’s Projects of the 50th, a series of developmental and economic projects to mark the country’s 50th year.

On the other hand, Sheikh Mohammed said the UAE is investing for generations to come.

“With each new advancement we make in space, we create opportunities for young people here on earth”, he wrote in a tweet.

Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, also tweeted about the mission.

The UAE is determined to make a meaningful contribution to space exploration, scientific research, and our understanding of the solar system”, he said.
